My List

Open the list and tap the share button at the top right. iOS shows its share sheet, where you choose who to invite and how they can take part. Each list is shared on its own: sharing one never shows anyone your others.

Only to start sharing a list you own. The sharing subscription is US$0.99 a week or US$29.99 a year (base prices in US dollars; your App Store shows yours). Everything else is free, including private lists, iCloud sync, reminders, widgets, the Apple Watch app, and viewing or editing a list someone shares with you. The people you invite never need a subscription.

Subscribe, restore purchases or manage your subscription in Settings → Sharing in My List.

My List warns you, and for 7 days you can keep managing your existing shares but can't start new ones. After those 7 days, your shared lists stop being shared and the people in them lose access. Your own lists and everything in them stay in My List.

In the share sheet, set the permission to View only before you send the invitation. To change it later, open the share sheet again and tap the person. People with view-only access see a View only badge, and the controls that would change the list are hidden from them.

Install My List before you tap the invitation, and make sure you're signed in to iCloud. If the invitation opened a browser instead of the app, install My List and tap the invitation again.

Open the list, tap the share button, and choose to stop sharing. The list disappears from everyone else's devices and stays on yours.

Check, in this order:

1. Both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account (Settings → your name).
2. iCloud Drive is on (Settings → your name → iCloud).
3. You have iCloud storage left: sync stops when it's full.
4. The device is online. Changes made offline wait, and sync when you reconnect.

Settings → Sync in My List shows what the app currently sees.

Yes. Everything works on the device, and Settings → Sync shows On this device. Only syncing and sharing need iCloud.

Tap its text to edit it in place, then press Return or tap elsewhere to save. Clearing the text of an item that has no picture removes the item.

Yes. Paste one straight into the entry field, or use the photo button beside it to take a photo or choose one. Pictures are resized before they're stored, so shared lists stay quick to sync.

Touch and hold an item, then drag it. Ticked items always sit below unticked ones, so they sink out of the way as you work through the list.

The circle on the left ticks or unticks every item at once. The ellipsis menu can clear the whole list (after asking you first), and when something is ticked, it offers Remove Checked to remove just the completed items.

Tap the palette button on the main screen to choose one of six themes, each with a light and a dark version, or to always use light or dark. Your widgets and Apple Watch follow the same theme.

For one list, open it and choose List Color from its options: pick one of 20 colours, or App Theme to follow the app. A list's colour follows it to your other devices, its widget, your Apple Watch and everyone sharing it.

Set a reminder when you create a list, or choose Reminder from an existing list's options. One-off, daily, weekly and monthly reminders sync with the list, so everyone sharing it is reminded on their own devices. Silence on this device mutes it for you without changing it for anyone else.

Each list remembers the items used in it, and suggests ones that aren't on it now. Type to narrow them down, or tap one to add it. Choose Clear suggestions from the list's options to erase its history.
