Common questions
Getting started
What do I need?
- An iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. The iPad app also runs on Macs with Apple silicon.
- At least one running Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Prowlarr, Seerr or Tautulli service that the device can reach.
- That service's API key.
There's no account to create and nothing to subscribe to. One service is enough to start, and you can add several of the same kind: a second Radarr for 4K films stays separate from the first.
Where do I find a service's API key?
In that service's own settings. The port is the one each service uses unless you've changed it.
| Service | Port | API key |
|---|---|---|
| Sonarr | 8989 | Settings → General → Security |
| Radarr | 7878 | Settings → General → Security |
| Lidarr | 8686 | Settings → General → Security |
| Prowlarr | 9696 | Settings → General → Security |
| Seerr | 5055 | Settings → General, as the owner |
| Tautulli | 8181 | Settings → Web Interface → API, with the API turned on |
What address do I enter?
The service's own address, with http:// or https://, its port, and its base path if it has one: for example http://192.168.1.10:8989, or http://192.168.1.10:8989/sonarr. Behind a reverse proxy, use the proxy's address, such as https://media.example.com/sonarr.
Managerr adds the API path itself, so leave out API endpoints, query strings and anything after a #. localhost and 127.0.0.1 mean the iPhone or iPad itself, not your server.
Why can't I tap Save?
Save turns on only after Test Service succeeds with exactly what's in the form. Change anything afterwards (a character of the address, the name, a header) and Save turns off until you test again.
Can I try Managerr without a server?
Yes. Open Settings (the gear, even on the welcome screen) and choose Explore the demo. It uses fictional services that need no credentials and never touch the network. Leaving the demo brings back your own services.
Connecting
A service won't connect
- Open its exact address in Safari on the same device and network. If that fails too, check the server, its port, DNS, the firewall and any VPN.
- For a server on your home network, allow Local Network access: Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network → Managerr.
- Check the service type, the port and the base path.
- Copy the API key again. For Seerr, use the owner's key; for Tautulli, make sure its API is turned on.
- Check any custom headers, and that the HTTPS certificate is valid and trusted. Then tap Test Service again.
What does the error mean?
401 or 403: the API key, its permissions, or a proxy's access policy turned the request away.
404, or an unexpected response: the service type or base path is wrong, or a proxy is answering with a web page or a sign-in screen instead of the API.
Connection refused, or timed out: the service isn't running, or isn't listening on that address and port, or the network, VPN or firewall is in the way.
Certificate error: check the certificate's hostname, expiry and chain. Managerr never ignores certificate errors, even if Safari lets you.
Redirect error: enter the final address directly. Managerr refuses to follow an authenticated request to a different scheme, host or port.
How do I connect away from home?
Through the remote access you already have: your VPN, or an HTTPS reverse proxy set up to pass the service's API through. Managerr doesn't create either.
If it works on Wi-Fi but not on mobile data, check that the VPN is connected and its routes and DNS reach your server. HTTP sends keys and data unencrypted, so use it only on a network you trust.
I use a reverse proxy or Cloudflare Access
Enter the proxy's final address with the base path, and the service's API key in its own field. Anything the proxy needs goes in Custom headers: an Authorization header with the Basic or Bearer value your proxy expects, for example. Header values are stored in Keychain with the key.
For Cloudflare Access, create a service token that the application's policy allows, and add its two headers, CF-Access-Client-Id and CF-Access-Client-Secret. A sign-in page can't authenticate the app.
Four header names are reserved and can't be added: x-api-key, Host, Content-Length and Cookie.
Everyday use
A screen is empty
Check that the service is turned on in Settings → Services, clear any filters, and make sure the content exists in the service's own web interface.
Each service supplies its own part: Sonarr, Radarr and Lidarr the libraries, releases and queues; Prowlarr indexer search; Seerr requests and discovery; Tautulli playback. The Dashboard hides empty sections, and Arrange Dashboard shows any you've switched off.
A download or import failed
Open the queue entry and read its warning. Then check the service's queue and history, the download client's logs, and the file paths and permissions as the server sees them. A command the server accepted can still wait in its queue or fail later, so check its status before sending it again.
Widgets, alerts or reminders are out of date
They show what the app last fetched. Open Managerr and let it refresh; how often it updates in the background is up to iOS. For reminders and alerts, allow notifications for Managerr in the Settings app, then set the reminder again in Calendar.
How do I back up, or move to a new device?
Use Settings → Back up & restore to save a backup to Files, and restore it on any device. API keys and custom headers never sync: they're included only in a backup you encrypt with a passphrase, and a settings-only backup leaves them out, so add them again after restoring it.
If a restore fails, check that the file has finished downloading in Files and that the passphrase is right. A backup from a newer version of Managerr may need the app updated first.
Managerr is an independent app and is not endorsed by or affiliated with the Sonarr, Radarr, Lidarr, Prowlarr, Overseerr, Jellyseerr, Tautulli or Plex projects. Their names and marks belong to their respective owners.
